Giant Stride

It’s all that exists between you and a new experience.

Ocean Voicethreads

The 2008-09 Ocean Voicethreads can be found on this wiki:

During the 2007-08 school year, I had the opportunity to help students from around in Virginia understand the ocean environment.  Below you’ll find the Voicethreads that they created and my feeble attempt to answer their wonderful questions.

Elementary classes from a neighboring district developed these questions for me. I answered them after my dives by using the free Internet access available in the  lobby of our hotel in Mexico.  Listening to these questions always seemed to attract attention. Divers, visitors, and hotel employees all seemed to grasp the value of this type of educational project.

These students asked terrific questions!

And then created an additional Voicethread to answer a challenge that I’d given them.

Middle School students from yet another district asked equally good questions.

I’ve had an opportunity to visit some of these classrooms since finishing this project and was quite pleased with the level of student engagement.  Now that the teachers have the hang of this activity I hope they’ll collaborate with each other before sending me their questions next year.
